Get a Mint Credit or Gift Card

A credit card is no longer considered a luxury but is more of a necessity these days. Many transactions are done via a credit card and purchases online will require a credit card if one does not have a Paypal account.

In 2003, the Mint credit card was introduced. There were two versions of the credit card. One is the standard credit card while the other is with the bottom right-hand corner removed. This one is the MC2 card. If you are looking to sign up for a credit card, I would recommend this Mint credit card for its saving features. You get 0% on purchases until 1st Dec 2007; 0% interest on balance transfers until 1st Dec 2007 for a low fee of 2.9%. You also get 0% bonus offer on balance transfers debited to your account.

Should you encounter any problem with the card, their Customer Service operates on a 24-hour service. MINT secure ensures that you shop online securely and with no worries plus you get a 56-day interest-free period on purchases.

If you are also looking for a great gift, why not give a gift of a Mint Gift Card? This gift card was launched in September 2006 and serves basically as a pre-paid credit card. Instead of wondering what to give to a loved one or a friend, the Mint Gift Card is simply perfect as the loved one or friend can get anything he or she desires with the gift card. Really a neat present that can be used just about anywhere. Whether it's credit cards or gift cards you are looking for, check out mint-online.co.uk

Take for instance, this Emmy Award winning soap opera, The Young and the Restless which focuses on the lives of three families in Genoa City. Today is the Sixth Day

Today is the sixth day of the Chinese New Year. There is still much activity going on, much travelling, visiting each other and hosting dinners for friends and relatives. Most people are still on leave and may still be outstation. One activity that is not missed is engaging in games of chance such as card games and mahjong games. These are part and parcel of the Chinese New Year.

If you love nature and are looking for a holiday in natural surroundings, a holiday to Malaysia would be the right choice. Malaysia offers the nature-lover unlimited flora and fauna in our numerous parks and natural habitats of jungle and caves. There are many places one can explore and visit to see the real beauty of Malaysia from exotic flowers and plants to birds and animals found only in this part of the world. And do not forget to bring along a pair of good binoculars. Haven't got a pair? Let me recommend a pair of steiner binoculars. There is every kind for every occasion.

The Third Day of the Chinese New Year

Today, February 20, is the third day of the Chinese New Year. This day is not for visiting if it's a visit for the first time since the celebration began. This day is named Beggars Day, thus it is not an auspicious day for visiting for obvious reasons.

The Second Day of the Chinese or Lunar New Year

The Chinese or Lunar New Year is celebrated for fifteen days starting on the first day of the Lunar New Year which was yesterday, February 18. The celebration actually began the eve of the New Year when family members travel far and wide to return home for the reunion dinner. It is more or less like an exodus. That is why during such major celebrations, the city of Kuala Lumpur is deserted devoid of traffic jams.

Today is the second day of the Chinese New Year. This is the day when married daughters return to visit their parents bearing gifts of foodstuff and oranges, symbols of wealth and properity.

It pays to get your PR up

I started this blog because I wanted to blog about Malaysia with the intent of sharing information with people who may be interested to know about the country and might find the information here useful should they visit the country. Due to this putting up information, I have not been visiting other blogs and leaving comments and because of this lack of interaction, my PR has not moved much.

I signed up with PayPerPost doing blog marketing, that is writing sponsored posts but with the new segmentation system, unfortunately, my low PR has caused me to miss quite of a bit of opportunities.

PPP has been putting up really big money opps lately! Too bad I will have to miss them but I will really need to get my PR up to be able to take advantage of the big money opps. The new segmentation system awards bloggers with high traffic blogs. A blogger could make as much as $1000 for a single sponsored post, that is if he qualifies. If you are still thinking as to whether to sign up for PPP, this could help you decide. Earn big money, sign up with PPP. By the way, disclosure is required from all bloggers.

Also...I hear PPP only charges a 35% service fee compared to some other that charges a 100% markup! This means they are taking half your money for every post! If your blog has a high PR, you can get high paying opps more often and put more in your pocket with PPP.

Happy Chinese NewYear

Today is the first day of the Chinese or Lunar New Year. These days, Chinese New Year is celebrated in a much less noisier atmosphere ever since firecrackers have been banned by the government several years ago. The only loud noise we hear comes from the drums of the lion dance troupes where drum beats accompany the dance. So far, I have not seen any lion dance performance but did hear the drums in the distance.

Best wishes to you for a new year filled with happinese, health and wealth.

Home Lightings from Shoppremier.com

My cousin, Stella, just bought a new house and she and her husband are busy doing up the place. The other day, they were looking at some brochures on lighting fixtures and were debating on the type of Bathroom lights to fix when I called upon them.

Doing up a new house is a lot of hardwork and decisions. Lightings alone would give one a headache as different locations would require differnt types of lightings and fixtures. Cindy loves cooking so I guess as a housewife, the kitchen would be her domain so she would prefer that the kitchen be bright. They still do have a lot of ground to cover in terms of lightings. There's the patio, the garden area, the bathroom, the games room, the children's rooms, etc. I suggested they check out Shoppremier.com for their large variety of home lighting fixtures and wonderful ideas.

Think Rain

It's raining now which is rather unusual this time of the year. In previous years, the weather around the Chinese New Year (which is on Feb 18 this year) would be hot and dry with no rain. In a way, rain is good. It cools the atmosphere. In fact, it has been rather dry the past few weeks. Even the Meteorological department predicted dry weather and warned the people in KL to brace for impending drought.

Valentine's Day

Tomorrow is Valentine's Day and already I've been receiving e-greetings from friends and colleagues. I remember we were not so free with such greetings back then. These days, we freely exchange greetings with friends. Times they are a-changing and people are more free with their expressions. Nice.

All My Children

What is it with soap operas? I have friends who would rather stay in and catch up on soap operas than go out during the weekends. One such soap that's getting all the attention is All My Children. My family too would all be glued to the TV on nights it was shown.

I think they'd be glad for this website that is dedicated to this series. The daily updates have put those cliff-hangers out of business but I don't mind as I am one who likes to know what's going to happen next. Can't stand all that guessing. This site has lots more. There's the newsroom with information on the cast members, the goings and comings of the cast. There are even spoilers to spoil the fun for you. Pictures. You can find lots on this site. You can even get to air your views on their message board. Why not sign up, be a member and get full access to the website. Membership is free.

Valentine's Day Virus

I wonder why do people create Internet viruses. There is even one for Valentine's Day. The people of Malaysia have been warned to be careful when opening up Valentine's e-greetings. Last year, it was reported that 30,000 computers were infected worldwide, with about 5,000 in Asia being severely damaged by a virus masquerading as a Valentine’s Day greeting.

Soap Opera, Days of Our Lives

Do you love soap operas but hate those cliff-hangers? I remember many years ago, when Dallas was THE soap of all soaps, most people would be at home glued to their TV set just so nothing would be missed. All this because of the clever cliff-hanger at the end of each episode. Well, I'm glad those days are gone.

These days, there's no need for such anxiety. My friends and I share a common liking for soaps relating to families, the goings-on of the community and its people. Our favorite right now is Days of our Lives. We still get excited about each episode but we can now read daily updates from this site, www.soaps.com. This site is really cool. We not only get to know the daily updates but other information such as the goings-on, the spoilers, even get to know some inside information from the newsroom. We also can find information on the cast and get involved in discussion in the forum and lots more. Cool site!

No holding two driving licences

Motorists will have their Malaysian driving licence revoked if they have been found to be holding a Singapore licence. This is in accordance to the ruling that a person shall be disqualified from obtaining a driving licence when another is granted to him in Singapore. This ruling is to make it easier to trace drivers who commit traffic offences on either side of the Causeway. Singapore is collaboratingwith Malaysia on this exercise.

Singapore prohibits those holding its licence from driving a Malaysian vehicle in the republic while Malaysia allows holders of either licence to drive a Malaysia- or Singapore-registered car in Malaysia.

An International Driving Permit is another alternative. This permits is at a cost of RM150 a year.

No Threat of Bird Flu in Malaysia

Malaysians should not be alarmed over the threat of bird flu now spreading in other countries. Proactive measures are being taken by the Health Ministry to prepare us in any eventuality. It was reported that although avian flu was detected among poultry in Malaysia in 2004 and 2006, there was no case of avian flu among humans.

There is no restriction on travellers from countries with bird flu cases from entering the country.

However, the public are to notify the relevant authorities of any unusual deaths among poultry.

Quality Poker Tables

Parties that my colleagues host usually end in poker games and the parties and games are so frequent that the tables they use are fast wearing out. Actually, the tables they have are not of the good quality type. I think they need to replace them with Cardroom Supply's holdem tables. These tables are of high quality and there is a wide selection to suit every need. They'd be able to ship the same or the next business day as they have stocks of 90% of their tables and shipping is free for orders above $100.

Pedu Lake

Pedu Lake is a tourist resort in the northern part of Peninsula Malaysia. There have been complaints in the papers from people who have been there citing the lake as dry or if you have been there and were disappointed with a dry lake, the letter below in the New Straits Times will shed some light to the situation.

02 Feb 2007
S.J. Alor Star

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I REFER to the report "The life drains out of Pedu Lake" (NST, Jan 31).

The failure of the resorts at Pedu Lake has little or nothing to do with the discovery of old graves, lack of promotion or remoteness as claimed.

These resorts were doomed to failure from the start owing to refusal on the part of the developers to take into account the operating conditions for the Pedu reservoir.

These conditions had been clearly made known by Mada, the operating agency of the Pedu dam.

The dam, along with the lake it created, is the primary source of dry-season irrigation for about 100,000ha of padi fields in the Muda irrigation area of Kedah and Perlis.

As such, the water level is subject to substantial annual drawdown when water is released, thus exposing more and more of the lake shore as the water level declines.

What then unfolds is truly an eyesore, especially for tourists who would have expected a lakeside environment but found instead a collection of chalets perched on a hilltop far from the water.

This annual occurrence has nothing to do with drought, being part of the weather cycle of north Kedah although a dry year would see a greater fall than normal in the water level.

Life has certainly drained out of these ill-fated resorts, but not Pedu Lake. Its annual release of water for irrigation enables a second crop of padi for 60,000 farmers in Kedah and Perlis, and contributes significantly to their lives and the country’s rice production.

Soap Operas

Soap operas have become part of our lives so much so my colleagues and I talk about them in the office everyday. There are so many that we are watching and not a single day goes by where we do not mention them. The one most talked about right now is General Hospital. We are often left exasperated by the cliff-hangers at the end of each episode and we'd be guessing as to what would happen next.

Now we no longer have to guess as to what will happen next as we can go to this site to find out at least the gist of the next episode. The updates we get from this wonderful site give us more information for further interesting discussion. We can talk about the comings and goings of each character and the spoilers of the plots. This site also has a message board or forum which we can sign up for online discussions with other interested parties. There are also popular magazines we can subscribe to. Lots more goodies on this website. Check it out.

A neighbour's son, Jonathan, almost had to stop his studies overseas when his father was laid off from his job last year. Jonathan had to resort to taking out a loan to finance his studies. He was then in his sophomore year. Unfortunately, the loan was not enough to cover his expenses and he had to take another loan. He worked during summer hoping to make some money to help out his college tuition but he was still short and soon he had to take out a third loan. He was at wits end until a college-mate recommended that he looked into Student Loan Consolidation. He immediately acted on it and he was glad he did as he is now paying less in interest and finds it easier to manage his debts.

eCards from eGreetings

It's a new month today, February. How time flies. Seems like it was only December not too long ago when I was rushing to send out Christmas cards at the very last minute and then it was New Year's and the same routine, mailing out cards! Not that I do not enjoy sending cards to friends and loved ones but it can get a little tedious having to go shopping for them, queue up at the Post Office for stamps and such. Nut not anymore. I found a pleasant alternative. I found eGreetings where there is a really wide selection of funny, risque, animated eCards for any occasion.

The best part about eCards on eGreetings is that I can personalize them with my own message and include pictures too. A yearly subscription is only $13.99 and when I signed up for membership, I got a 30-day trail membership to send as many eCards as I want. There is no longer any worry that my card will not arrive on time as I can schedule my eCards to arrive on the date I want them to arrive. How cool is that? Signing up was easy. I just had to provide some personal information but I am not worried as eGreetings will not distribute members details to any third party.

Mabel's birthday is just around the corner. Mabel is a very sporting and fun girl, so she will enjoy this card that I'm going to send her.

Sam's birthday is just two days away so this sexy birthday eCard
will be just the card for Sam.

Today is Thaipusam Day. Today is also Federal Territory Day so it is a public holiday for both Kuala Lumpur city folks and those in the state of Selangor.

An estimated 1.5 million people are expected to gather for Thaipusam today at the temple in Batu Caves. A bigger crowd is expected as today is also a public holiday in KL. Roads leading to and from Batu Caves would be jammed.

Hockey Forum

Here in Malaysia, when we mention 'hockey' it would mean the hockey game which is being played on a grass turf. But in the US, hockey would actually be ice hockey as we know it here. Ice hockey is getting to be a popular sport unfortunately, there are not many ice rinks to give the sport wider participation. Due to its limited scope here, there is not much coverage of the game and events and players may not get enough exposure to improve on their game. Luckily there is enough information ice hockey players can get access to on the Internet. Take for instance this NHL Forum, there is a whole lot of information on hockey, current leagues, hockey products, players, and lots more. This forum is really helpful for our players.
